Shizhu rhizoma coptidis belongs to the rhizoma of Coptis chinensis Franch with Chinese name: “Jizhualian”, “Weilian”, it is a kind of rare TCM Material, originally listed as top grade herb in Shennong Bencaojing(a famous Chinese classic medicinal literature). Shizhu Rhizoma Coptidis enjoys its long planting history, biggest planting area, top output, and best quality. As early as in 742 A.D.(ie.Tianbao Yuannian,Tang Dynasty), Shizhu rhizoma coptidis was paid to the emperor as tribute. It is recorded that “Weilian is only cultivated, and solely produced in Shizhu County” in Medicinal Materials in Sichuan Province edited by Bank of China in 1934. In 1989,Shizhu Rhizoma Coptidis was confirmed as “Trueborn Chinese Goldthread” at the National Trueborn Medicinal Materials Academic Seminar held in Taian,Shandong Province. In 1991, the National Ministry of Agriculture invested in CSCC to establish the high quality Chinese goldthread base.
【Commodity】This product is from Coptis chinensis Franch(popular Chinese name:Weilian), which is usually planted with canopy for shade, collect its seed at Summer begins, seminate in Autumn (two years seedling stage), transplant in Spring, and pick in Autumn after five years. It is processed by adopting the traditional processing technics: wipe off mud, fibre and leaves; dry with heated brick bed; depilate with bamboo cage, remove residual fibres and mud; then finished products.
【Characters】This product mostly centralizes into a cluster bending as chicken claw; its surface is coarse, shows lark or filemot, and has irregular tuberculous apophyses, fibre, fibre remnant, etc. and some intersegment’s surface smooth as haulm(popular Chinese name:Guoqiao); the upside of it usually remains brown squamae, and leafstalk remnant at the top; woodiness hard, cross section irregular, bark salmon pink or dark brown, xylem fresh yellow or orange, showing radial orientation, some hollow medulla. Feeble smell and much bitter.
This product mainly contains Berberine, also contains coptisine, worenine, palmatine, columbamine, calystigine,palmatine,etc. multi kinds of alkaloids, and obakunone, obakulactone.
【Nature and Flavor】Cold-natured, bitter in taste.

The coptis root fried with wine can resolve heat, to be used for conjunctival congestion, aphtha, toothache, otopyosis, sore throat, etc. five sense organs disease; coptis root fried with zingiberis recent juice can clear away the stomach-heat and control nausea and vomiting, to be used for intervolving of chills and fever, vomit caused by feeling of fullness;goldthread fried with soothe the liver and control nausea and vomiting, to be used for discordance of liver and stomach, vomit and acid regurgitation. Coptis root grinded with human milk is a better medicine for eye diseases. The modern pharmacology research confirmed that the Coptis chinensis Franch also has the anti-microorganism and the anti-protozoan, the anti-cancer, the anti-radiation, promotion cell metabolism, the improvement circulatory system, functions and so on flaccid smooth muscle. 【Quality Standards】Shizhu rhizoma coptidis product is divided into two types:row goldthread and individual stem goldthread, the quality standards as follow,
1、Dry row goldthread: Dry & solid body, jaw shape, no fibrils on the surface, remaining stem on the top, internode few pure wood fiber segment; no char black, milden and rot, worm-eaten.
Individual goldthread separated from the row goldthread: Individual stem, dry and solid, no fibrils, no pure wood fiber segment, length over 3cm, diameter over 0.3cm; no char black, milden & rot, and wormeaten.
2、Physical And Chemical Index:Moisture/ (%)≤13.0; Ash Content/(%)≤5.0 ; Impurity/(%)≤1.0 ; C20H18ClNO4/(%): Dried row goldthread ≥5.0, Individual goldthread separatedfrom the row product≥ 7.0
