Shizhu Tujia minority Autonomous County is located at the east longitude 107°59′to 108°34′, the north latitude 29°39′to 30°32′; it is situated at the edge mountains of east Chongqing.There are expansive mountain farm, fertile land,dense vegetation,and aboundant rainfall,cold climate,few sunlight and short frost-free period, where is the best ecological environment for the Coptis chinensis Franch growing. Total distribution area of Shizhu coptis is up to 191,467 hectares, accounts for 64.19% of the total breadth area, distributing over 26 towns(81% of total towns), 80 villages(33% of total villages), and 380 teams(28% of total teams). There are 46,667 hectares suitable plantation of Coptis chinensis Franch, 28,667 hectare of it(account for total 57%) belongs to the major plantation.The suitable plantation is mainly located at Huangshui Mountain plain and Zhongshan area of Qiyao mountain,with average altitude of 1000-1700 meter(highest altitude 1934.1 m at Dafengbao hilltop). The major plantation perennially keeps average temperature 10.4℃, annual rainfall 1372 mm, sunlight 1140 hours, frost-free period 188-210 days,aridity K=0.5, relative humidity 80-90%.The planting soil mainly blongs to purple soil and yellow-brown soil, the few part yellow soil and chernozem;its pH shows acid- weak acid, the thick humus of the topsoil is rich in nitrogen, phosphor and potassium, medium fertility ,the output of rhizome coptidis high and the quality good.
